In fact, today marks 18 years in Bengali cinema for Dev. On this special occasion, he shared a post where he also unveiled the poster of his first film Agnishapath, which was released in 2006.

Today, Dev shared a celebratory moment on his X handle, revealing that he has completed 18 years in the industry. He expressed that the love and support from his fans during this long journey are priceless. Despite facing criticism over his Bengali accent, he has become one of Bengali cinema’s most important stars by delivering one hit film after another. This milestone and his gratitude towards his fans are key parts of his success.

Dev’s popularity has not waned, despite various trolling pages on social media criticizing him. In fact, most of the hit films released in Tollywood in recent years have been his. Not only in acting, but in recent years, he has also made his mark in production. His produced films have received critical acclaim and been commercially successful.

Dev’s Pradhan has already been a success, earning more than five crore rupees since its release in the last week of December. In 2024, two more of Dev’s films have been released—Khadan and Tekka. In 2016, Dev worked with director Srijit Mukherji on Zulfiqar, and after seven years, their collaboration has been revived in Tekka.

He says, “The biggest turning point in my life was the opportunity to get my first job. The movie Agnishpath was a game-changer for my career. If it weren’t for this film, I might never have come to Kolkata. After that, my relationship with SVF developed, and the work on my next film began. If I hadn’t done that first film, I might have stayed in Mumbai.”

He adds, “A lot of things could have happened for me in Mumbai. I could have worked as an assistant director, joined my father’s catering business, looked for a job, or even done modeling. There were many paths I could have taken. I wanted to leave Mumbai, so without thinking, I came to Kolkata. I thought I would stay for no more than a month, do one film, and then leave. Who knew that I would come for a month and end up staying for eighteen years!”

Dev has completed 18 years in his acting career. On this occasion, he humorously wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, “Hello everyone, I’ve finally turned adult today! I mean, I’ve spent 18 years in the industry. Thank you to everyone for the love, support, and blessings all these years. I don’t know if this will be possible every year, but this year, on this day, I have something special for you.”
