Excessive enthusiasm from celebrity fans often leads to various problems. Recently, there have been reports of online disputes between fans of celebrities from Bangladesh and West Bengal. Now, West Bengal director Shibprasad Mukherjee and his wife, screenwriter Jinia Sen, have filed a complaint against a fan at the police station. The incident began with a post from a so-called Dev fan, in which the person threatened director Shibprasad not to release a film on the same day as Dev’s. After the post went viral, Shibprasad’s wife, screenwriter Jinia Sen, shared a protest post with a screenshot of the message. Following this, some individuals, identifying themselves as Dev fans, attacked Jinia and began insulting her with offensive language.
Afterward, a group of miscreants used AI technology to distort one of Jinia’s photos and spread it online, further complicating the situation. This caused great distress for both Shibprasad and Jinia. Eventually, they sought police intervention and filed a complaint at the police station. This incident has raised concerns about online security and respect among celebrities in West Bengal.
On Wednesday, Shibprasad and Jinia filed a complaint at Kolkata’s Rabindra Sarobar police station for violation of privacy. In an interview with Samudra Protidin, Jinia Sen stated, “Since Wednesday afternoon, several of my photos have been distorted and spread on social media. This morning, the Cyber Crime Department was notified, and then we filed the complaint at Rabindra Sarobar police station.” She expressed that this is a highly disturbing incident and they hope the authorities will take swift action.
Shibprasad commented on the incident, saying, “Such a situation has never occurred in the Bengali film industry before. We have never seen such trouble from fan clubs. Using inappropriate language, threatening behavior… they should face severe punishment. We have full trust in the police. Whoever is responsible for this, we hope the police will identify them and take strict action.”
Following his statement, there has been a strong reaction in Tollywood. Actress Ritabhari Chakraborty also strongly condemned the incident, which has sparked a storm of discussion in the Bengali film industry.
The actress wrote on Facebook, “There should be a limit to filthiness. Can we really accept that such obscene behavior is being supported? Celebrities may endure trolling in tough situations, but how can we tolerate such behavior towards a wife or a sister, who are ordinary people?”
Many others, besides Ritabhari, have also made various comments on the matter. Within the industry, several people have strongly condemned the repeated actions of Dev’s fans regarding the incident.
However, despite all that has happened, actor Dev and actress Rukmini have not yet responded to the issue. No comments or reactions have been received from them. It is being said that both of them are currently quite busy with the shooting of their new films and other work. In fact, Dev has a big-budget movie releasing soon, and they are spending a significant amount of time promoting that film.
