Two months ago, Malaika Chowdhury came into the spotlight for the first time by participating in a drama shoot. Her co-star was popular actor Farhan Ahmed Jovan, and the direction was handled by renowned director Mostafa Kamal Raj. Beyond this new pairing and director, the main question among fans was, who is this Malaika?
Later, people revealed that Malaika is the younger sister of popular actress Mehazabien Chowdhury. She had previously gained recognition in the advertising industry. Today, she is making her debut on the small screen. Her first drama, “Sandhikhon,” has just released on the “Cinemawala” YouTube channel.
The script for the drama is based on a story by Mehazabien Chowdhury, which was adapted by director Raj. He shared, “I really liked the story. From the beginning, we had planned to cast someone new. While discussing the character with Mehazabien, it occurred to me that Malaika had already worked in advertising, and her look and character aligned well with the story. I then suggested Malaika to Mehazabien, and she liked the character too. Since this is Malaika’s first project, we took our time to ensure that the audience would get to see someone new on the small screen.”
Malaika talks about her first drama with Prothom Alo, saying, “The biggest inspiration of my life is my sister, Mehazabien Chowdhury. I grew up watching her act on screen, and her performances have always amazed me. Her success has always motivated me. I often thought, ‘If only I could act!’ But I didn’t have the courage because I thought maybe I wouldn’t be able to act as well as she does. I received acting offers many times, but I didn’t have the courage to accept them. My sister always told me, ‘You need to move forward slowly. The time will come, and when you’re ready, you’ll start.’ Following her advice, I first started working in the advertising industry, which was a big step for me. Now, I’ve acted in my first drama. This is a new experience for me. Now, I’m just waiting to see how the audience will accept me. I’m eager to see their reactions.”
Talking about her pairing with Jovan in the new drama Sandhikhon, Malaika shared with Prothom Alo, “Jovan Bhai taught me so much. He showed me how to deliver dialogues and how to express myself in different situations. His guidance and support have helped me improve my acting.”
She added, “Raj Bhai also helped a lot. He gave me the freedom to act and took time to explain how to align myself with the character. It’s because of his encouragement and support that I was able to act in this drama.”
Additionally, Malaika mentioned the inspiration of her older sister, Mehazabien Chowdhury, saying, “One person I must mention is my sister, who has always encouraged me from the very beginning. I grew up watching her on screen and have always received motivation and inspiration from her.”
Mehazabien shared that Malaika has been interested in acting since childhood. She always said that she would make her own decisions when she grew up. “Now that Malaika has learned to make decisions, we have no objection to her choosing acting as a profession. As a family, we have given her complete freedom. She will do whatever she loves. We have no objections to her acting,” said Mehazabien
