In her childhood, people often asked Malaika, “Your sister is an actress; will you become an actress one day?” To this, she would gently smile and reply, “Maybe I will, or maybe I won’t.”
Today, Malaika wants to follow her older sister as a role model and pursue acting. She dreams of making her mark in the acting world.
Malaika’s interest in acting began when she was very young. At the age of six or seven, she expressed her desire to her family. Though her family acknowledged her dream, they emphasized the importance of focusing on her studies.
Malaika shared, “I was inspired by watching my sister act. But my parents told me, ‘Finish your studies first. If you do both at the same time, your studies may suffer, and your focus could shift.’”
Because of this, she focused on her education at that time but continued to nurture her dream of acting. It’s worth mentioning that she is the younger sister of the popular actress Mehazabien.
As a child, Malaika often went to events with her older sister Mehazabien. At these events, people would ask Mehazabin, “Will your sister also act?” But due to her young age, the family did not want Malaika to enter acting at that time.
Malaika grew up observing her older sister’s acting career and noticed her sister’s popularity from an early age.
Mehazabien knew about Malaika’s interest in acting. Malaika recalls, “When I finished my O-levels and was studying for A-levels, my sister would occasionally ask me, ‘There’s a TVC role; would you model? Would you act?’ But at that time, because of my studies, I couldn’t take up the opportunity.”
Last June, when my sister offered me again, I agreed. I was on vacation at that time. I thought, since I want to act, I must start somewhere. I agreed to take up the opportunity for a good brand and director.”
In June last year, Malaika stood in front of the camera for the first time, with her older sister Mehazabien by her side. She wasn’t intimidated at all by the words “Lights, Camera, Action”; in fact, she felt excited hearing them.
Recalling her sister’s advice, Malaika said, “That day, I wasn’t scared at all. I acted in my own way. Later, I looked at my sister, and she smiled and said, ‘Your acting is good. I won’t criticize you. Don’t feel pressured. Act the way the director is guiding you.’ After that, I started trying my best to learn and improve on my own.”
Mehazabien’s family consists of two brothers and three sisters, with Malaika being the youngest. Since childhood, Malaika has spent a lot of time with her older sister Mehazabien and has grown up observing her.
For Malaika, Mehazabien is not only her older sister but also a role model. She wants to follow in her sister’s footsteps and progress in acting. She has received a lot of acting advice and training from her sister.
Currently, Malaika is studying for her A-levels. Since Thursday, she has received many good wishes and messages for her sister Mehazabien.
That day, Mehazabien posted a status on Facebook about her younger sister Malaika. Malaika shared, “After my debut commercial, when my sister posted a status, many people wanted to see me. They were sending me wishes on Facebook. Some even said they wanted to see me more on screen. I felt really happy, but also a bit nervous.”
Even though she’s busy with her studies, Malaika wants to continue acting. She said, “My studies are still keeping me busy, but I will continue working. I really love dramas, and I want to act in them too. However, for now, I am more interested in working in commercials.”
Actress Mehazabien Chowdhury is very happy about her younger sister Malaika’s journey into acting. As the eldest in the family, she has always supported her sister. Mehazabien said, “I never had to tell Malaika what to do. She came into acting on her own accord.”
She also mentioned, “When I first received the offer for the commercial, I told Malaika about it. At that time, her exams had finished, and she was on vacation. Himalaya is a good brand, so it seemed like a suitable choice for her first project. Malaika agreed after looking at the script, and I was happy with her performance.”
In the beginning of Malaika’s acting career, the commercial’s director was Adnan Al Rajib. Initially, there was some hesitation, but after the screen test, the production team was convinced by Malaika’s unique performance and agreed to move forward with her.
Mehazabien said, “The director and the team were very supportive of Malaika. Thanks to that, her debut went well. Whether she continues acting or not is up to her. I never want to interfere in her choices.”
She continued, “She can act alongside her studies. If she doesn’t have an interest in acting, that’s perfectly fine. We, as a family, support everyone. Just as I received support, Malaika will too. If she wants to pursue acting, modeling, or any other work, we will stand by her in everything.”
